My thoughts before the first Kiln To Kitchen event. This past Sunday was the first part of the very first installment of Kiln To Kitchen, a 2-part experience where you make your own ceramic plates then eat off of them in a multicourse dinner. These thoughts ran rampant in my mind as doors opened and i waited for the first person. I stood around and was filled with so much anxiety. What if no one shows up? What if this fails again? I came so far and just for it to blow up in my face. Of course, i was wrong. The first person to show up was Christine and after that, it was pure bliss. All my anxiety turned to excitement, all my intrusive thoughts turned to curiosity. People showed up one after another and there was so much joy and laughter and love all in one room. Before i knew it, it was 5:30, both classes were done, and we were cleaning up. I want to truly thank you for showing up but also those of you that still support. See you in a couple weeks for the dinner! Thank you to the team @industrieshome @spartanburgartmuseum @earth.angel.clay @iam.juansoto Without you, this wouldnt have been as amazing as it was. Eventhough it received so much support, its hard to believe for me that people actually showed up. I tear up whenever i think about it. Im extremely grateful for every person ive met, and all the love thrown my way and everyone elses way. I think this is a beautiful way to connect community and art. I learned i have imposter syndrome After my last couple dinners I realize that I have a lot to learn. There’s so many amazing chefs out there and I feel like I’m just a beginner still to this day I do struggle with the feeling that I don’t belong here, that I don’t belong in this industry and that I’m not good enough. I feel like my skills are plateauing and that they have have been stagnant. I didn’t go to culinary school. I don’t have professional foundations. I didn’t train directly under a chef. I learned through YouTube Google observation and just a curious creativity and just working in kitchens. I don’t wanna give just a good experience. I want to give an amazing experience. I don’t wanna be the best chef but I want you leaving feeling the best so I created a new series called f*ck around and find out where essentially I’m going to be working with local produce from local farms, local but trees and see what happens. Thanks to you another date has been set!!! If you dont know Kiln To Kitchen is a new 2 part experience ive been working on for about a year that wouldnt get traction. And now its grown a waitlist of 6x in the couple weeks. Ive gone from not getting a simple email response back, to scrambling to reslond to emails and dms and figure out more ways to get you guys seats! Finally after a year, its happening Heres a 2-part event called Kiln To Kitchen, where you’ll be crafting 3 of your own plateware in a class setting. 2-3 weeks after its been fired and glazed, youll get to go and enjoy a multicourse dinner off of those plates you made yourself! Best of all, you’ll take your plates home after the dinner! My travel partner joining us is guest chef Cole Pate “Meet Cole Pate, an Asheville native whose story is rooted in connection, culture, and the kind of food that stays with you long after the last bite. His passion started early, sparked by his grandmother, cooking Sunday breakfast beside her. Even being gifted his first wok at just eight years old. From there, his journey took shape in the kitchens of the Biltmore Estate, where Chef Noriko instilled in him a deep respect for technique, culture, and precision. Along the way, food became more than a craft , it became a language of love, memory, and human connection. It’s also what brought him to his wife, whom he met over shared plates at a tapas restaurant. Where dishes were filled with nostalgia, intention, and heart. And that’s exactly how Cole cooks: 100% heart, 100% hospitality. He worked his way through culinary school while at The Biltmore Estate, sharpened his skills during an internship at the prestigious Greenbrier Hotel, and went on to lead some incredible restaurant concepts in Atlanta before making his way to Greenville where he met the Potluck crew.
